The year is 2100. The beginning of the 21st century is known for the rapid advancement of technology – from the humble brick phone to the internet of things, data and digitalisation have revolutionised living. But now, a staggering 11 billion people live on Earth, 85% of which are in urban environments. You are given the opportunity to be the [[Chief City Controller]] for ''24 hours''. Your job scope includes managing your city and preparing for the challenges of the 22nd century. Do you rise to the ocassion? [[Let's go!]] [[Not quite...]]

Congratulations, but be prepared: This experience will be difficult, but rewarding. Thankfully, you will only control one city today. While cities do sometime rename themselves, the multitude of urban spaces is confusing. Remember to call your city something you like. What is your city called? The time now is 0700 at [['$city' -> City]] You have an important meeting to attend and decisions to make. But first, you need to make your way to the central area. Here in '$city', the urban space was last outfitted with tech nology from the mid-20th century. Although relatively small, there is a disproportionately high number of people who live here. Mid-21st century technology has enabled building more land to accomodate the increased population. So '$city' was built as a relatively new port city that improves global logistic flows. Unlike the historic global city hubs, '$city' stands to benefit from its relative under-development. It must go through the models and paradigms of urban planning and reckon with the sustainability, social inequality and globalisation challenges of the 21st century. [[Moving on->start your day]]

The time now is 0900. Your first order of business is a town hall. The last century has raised the importance of citizen particpation and you listen to the concerns of your community. Some complain about the rising costs of the city, but most are worried about their privacy. Others are there to push for more climate action and more people outside protest the Chief City Controller position. It was an expensive investment, but with your advance renumeration being Chief City Controller, you enjoy it well. Given the unrest of the mid 21st century over technocratic and top-down planning styles, cities in 2100 are governed by the everyday citizen, for one day at a time.
