Welcome to Tibet, a country sourrounded by massive snowy mountains, characterised by turquoise lakes, deep valleys and extensive grassland. Not only known to the outstanding beauty of the landscape, but also deeply fascinating regarding the importance of Tibetan Buddhism to the government and its people.
After being occupied by a foreign dynasty of the neighboring nation state for nearly 200 years, Tibet has reached the status of independence with much difficulty.
[[Continue->Second]](set: $playername to (prompt: "What is your name?", "Player One"))
$playername, you are now the newly appointed spiritual and political leader of this country. While Tibet is de-facto independent at the moment, you are aware that you might not be left alone by the neighboring nation state, as they have attempted to claim inheritance of several provinces before.
You have to think about the future of the country and make important decisions to strengthen it, as you are anxious about your powerful neighbor daring any attempts to lay hands on the country again.
[[You set up a meeting with your advisors, aristocrats and monks.->The Meeting]]On a cold, sunny morning you meet the advisors, aristocrats and representative monks to discuss the future of the country.
"$playername, your Holiness, please share your thoughts with us. What worries your mind that you have urged us to meet here?", one of your closest advisors asks.
You reply: "Looking back at the history, our Tibet has faced difficulties coming to terms with our neighbor. We should be alert shall they make any claims of our country. Currently, while we might be independent, Tibet is weak and we need to invest in enlarging and modernizing our military."
However, the participants of the meeting strongly oppose the idea of improving the military, leaving you in a dilemma.
[[You decide to proceed with your proposal against their will.->Stronger Military]]
[[You accept the veto by the other members and do not strengthen the military.->No Military]]You decide to invest into strengthening and modernizing the military of Tibet. However, the conservative leaders in the government do all they can to refrain you from doing so, as they see it as not necessary, a waste of resources, and not conforming to the spiritual standards.
[[You give up on your plan.->No Military]]
[[Use Tibet's state money to invest in the military.->Dismissed]]
[[Ask for support from foreign countries.->Foreign military training]]You have decided to respect the members objection to modernize the military. However, some years later your worries manifest themselves into reality, more or less. The neighboring nation state has started to make its political party known in your country and has caused some agitation.
The conservative members of the government still think a strengthening of the military is unnecessary and that you are overreacting, but you are convinced you need to do something about it.
[[Use Tibet's state money to invest in the military.->Dismissed]]
[[Ask for support from foreign countries.->Foreign military training]]A fellow Asian country has agreed to provide Tibet with some arms and military aid, which has given you the opportunity to enlarge your army.
It looks like you probably made the right decision to focus on making your military stronger, as a few years later, the neighboring country is demanding claims to incorporate Tibet into their state. However, you have to realise that your neighbor's army is much larger, stronger, and more experienced.
[[Decide to fight against their invasion anyway.->Invasion]]
[[Attempt to find a diplomatic solution with them.->Diplomacy]]You have decided to use the state money of the country, which was already quite scarce, to invest in a few arms and the training of the army. However, the aristocrats and monks, including the Tibetan population were shocked by your selfish decision and have risen up to a protest against you. They question your ability as a spiritual leader.
$playername, you are dismissed as Tibet's spiritual leader. The members of the government are seeking for a more suitable replacement.
[[Start new game.->Start]]The day has come that the forces of the neighboring nation state have marched into your country with a full fledged army. They quickly corner the Tibetan military, as they are much more experienced.
After roughly seven months of active invasion, your country is annexed to the new nation state.
Your population is unhappy about the new reality and they stike up [[protests against the new government in the following years.->Uprising]]You ask the political leader of the neighboring country for a diplomatic negotiation regarding the incorporation of your nation into their state.
They claim that they aim to 'liberate' Tibet from a theocratic feudal system and that it would be for your own and your population's benefit. You are left to either let them proceed with their plan peacefully, or fight back when the time comes.
[[Agree on the process.->Invasion]]
[[Object and declare you will fight for Tibet's independence.->Invasion]]In one major uprising, the protest spreads to the former capital of Tibet, where you and other former government officials used to reside. However, this protest is brutally crushed by the new state and it is not safe here anymore for you.
[[Flee the country.->Exile]]
[[Decide to stay out of loyalty to the Tibetan people.->Arrest]]In disguise, you flee the country with some close government officials as it is not safe for you anymore to stay since you would probably get arrested by the new state which Tibet is now part of.
Living in exile in another Asian country, you try to advocate for support and freedom of Tibetan people from abroad, and hope that this matter gains international recognition in the near future.
[[Return to Start.->Start]]You have been thinking about fleeing the country as it is not safe for you to stay here anymore, but you just cannot bring yourself to leave everything and everyone behind. You decide to stay loyal to Tibet and the Tibetan people.
While you muster up this courage, you accept your detention by the new government.
After you got arrested, the public do not hear from you anymore, neither do they know what happened to you.
